Barbara Schröer

I am a video artist, dancer and performer resident in Cologne.
I studied contemporary dance at the Highschool of the Arts (EDDC) in Arnhem, Netherland.
In 2002 I received a scholarship for the Academy of the Biennale of Venice under the direction of Carolin Carlson.

Through the documentary filmmaker Lutz Gregor I came into contact with the medium of film. I have been working as a video artist in dance and theatre for over ten years. I collaborate with various artists, collectives, theatres and production facilities in Germany, create film for the stage and realize trailers and complete documentaries for companies to promote their work.

My many years of experience as a dancer and performer have shaped my way of directing film and working with artist on stage and behind the camera.

Since 2007 I have been working closely with the Company Déjà Donné and the choreographer Simone Sandroni. Repeatedly I created the video for his productions and documented his choreographic work. In the 2016/17 season Sandroni brought me to the Stadtheater Bielefeld where I was part of the community dance project PHASE 1 as a choreographer and video artist. Last autumn I took over the video direction for his “Romeo and Juliet”.

I also regularly lead youth dance-media projects for the Tanzhaus NRW and “Chance Tanz”.
